 THE LITTLE SISTERS FUND

The Little Sisters Fund (previously known as the Bahini Fund for Nepali Girls Education, Inc.) is a scholarship and mentoring program for motivated Nepalese girls living in extreme poverty. Without Fund support, these girls might be forced to discontinue school, and would be susceptible to child labor, child marriage, and/or child trafficking (including the international sex industry). Currently supporting the education of 100 girls in Nepal.    The Little Sisters Fund has:

  1. Supported over 500 individual years of education in our first six years.
  2. Established a 1,500 volume library in Nepal.
  3. Provide basic health care for all the “little sisters”.
  4. Established a small computer center in Nepal.

DENVER PAL’S

Denver PAL’s provides little league athletics and activities to over 7,000 youth ages 4 to 14 in the Denver area annually.  PAL’s mission is to enhance the youths self-respect by channeling energies in worthwhile directions, advancing their moral, physical, mental and social growth through principles of good sportsmanship and good citizenship.  PAL’s goal is to help children from troubled backgrounds during the most influential time in their lives.

THE LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society’s mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $360 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.

THE SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION

For more than 20 years, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Working through a network of U.S. and international Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, the Komen Foundation is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world.  To make a donation to The Standard’s breast cancer support fund please click here.

DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS

Doctors Without Borders delivers emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation.  Doctors Without Borders is an international network with associations in 18 countries. 

Each year, more than 2,500 volunteer doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, logistics experts, water/sanitation engineers, and administrators join 15,000 locally hired staff to provide medical aid in more than 80 countries.

DENVER HARLEQUIN QUAD RUGBY

The Denver Harlequins are the only quad rugby team in the state of Colorado.  All of the members of the team are permanently disabled.  Not only is the equipment to compete expensive, but the cost to rent gym time and enter and host tournaments is exorbitant.  The Harlequins rely on outside donations to compete.  In 2007, The Harlequins made all of Colorado proud by winning the National Championship in Quad Rugby.

FOUNDATION FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL RELIEF OF CHILDREN

Our Vision - A world in which all children have an equal opportunity to benefit from modern medicine.

Our Mission - To provide access to medical care for the millions of underprivileged and medically underserved children around the world.

We strive to accomplish our mission through the following efforts:

  1. Fundraising for the construction of pediatric clinics in areas currently lacking a reliable source for healthcare.  

  2. Directly influence the health of children by encouraging and supporting individuals and groups who desire to travel to medically underserved areas of the world.  

  3. Encourage future health leaders to become involved in our purpose by recognizing their achievements. 

Through determination and the belief that all children deserve health, FIMRC declares itself as a major force in the delivery of healthcare worldwide – one clinic and one child at a time.

ASHA FOR EDUCATION

Mission Statement - To catalyze socio-economic change in India through education of underprivileged children.

Asha for Education is a secular organization dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change.

In keeping with this focus, our volunteers are involved with and support projects that are secular and have an education-related component to them. The objectives of this group are:

  1. To provide education to underprivileged children in India.

  2. To encourage the formation of various local groups across the world to reach out to larger sections of the population.

  3. To support and cooperate with persons and groups already engaged in similar activities.

  4. To raise the required human and other resources to achieve the group objectives.

  5. To provide opportunities to individuals living outside India who wish to participate in Asha activities in India.

  6. To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environment, socio-economic aspects and women’s issues.

THE CARTER BROTHERTON FUND

Carter Trace Brotherton was diagnosed with a rare disorder called I-Cell Disease or ML II. He was born on Halloween 2006 and is the first and only child of Trent and Deni Brotherton.   The Standard is making it our goal to help raise money to help the Brotherton’s with the overwhelming costs associated with a Bone Marrow transplant.  Please join us for the Super Bowl Sunday Carter Brotherton/ MPS Benefit on Feb. 3, 2008 3pm @ Jackson’s Sports Rock Denver.
